About Mike
Mike Washington is a dedicated resident of St. Albans Township with a deep commitment to preserving its unique character while guiding its future growth responsibly. With over 30 years of business experience in Western Licking County and a profound understanding of local government, Mike is uniquely qualified to serve as your next Township Trustee.
Mike's dedication to the community is evident through his long-standing service on the St. Albans Zoning Commission, where he has been a member since 2017 and currently serves as chairman. In this role, he has been a leader in implementing strategic tools for managing development, including the new Planned Unit Development (PUD) zoning code. He believes these tools, such as Planned Residential (PDR), Planned Mixed Use (PD-MU), and Planned Commercial (PD-C) zoning, are crucial for ensuring that any future development aligns with the community's vision and prevents unwanted high-density housing or commercial sprawl.
Beyond his public service, Mike brings a wealth of business acumen. He was a key part of his family's business, which grew from a single location in Johnstown to 25 locations with nearly 300 employees. His extensive experience in managing large budgets and overseeing complex operations has given him the ability to listen, learn, and implement strategic initiatives—a skill set he believes is essential for the Township's leadership at this crucial crossroads.
Mike is running for trustee because he believes the township needs engaged and effective leadership to manage unplanned growth and secure its financial future. He is concerned that the current leadership has not been proactive in implementing financial tools like Joint Economic Development Districts (JEDDs), TIF’s or NCAs, which are vital for fighting back against unwanted development and protecting the Township from external pressures.
"We need trustees who are ready to stand up for the Township's ability to manage itself," says Washington. "We can continue to be a great place to live and raise our families, but we need leaders who will act decisively to control our future, not let outside agendas dictate our path."
Mike Washington is running for one of the two open Township Trustee positions he and Tad VanNess ask for your vote to bring a new era of proactive and responsible leadership to St. Albans Township.
Thank you.
